This has to be one of the more striking colour forms of the Araucana breed.
The colour should be a uniform black all over, and when the light hits them they are irridescent, known as beetle black, their feathers will show purple and plue in the sunlight. A bright red face mask and pea comb
As all the Araucana breeds these birds lay the most beautiful blue eggs, pastel colours that can range from a bright sky blue to an almost olive green.
The hens will lay their eggs well into the winter months, and if left to it they will become broody at the drop of a hat.
They do make great parent birds, and the chicks are very curious, chasing flies and foraging from a very early age.
